The year ahead is the Diamond Jubilee celebration year for our profession which will commence from the 1st of July; 2008, the celebrations of which will mark the Institute’s journey into the 60th year of its existence. Our members should proclaim Institute’s achievements to the society and also to the World. Our President CA. Ved Jain has announced a series of programs on this historic occasion of celebration of Diamond Jubilee year of the Institute. I request all our members to join together in this celebration for the whole year from July 2008 to June 2009. In this direction I request you all for your suggestions on the activities that may be undertaken by our Branch as a part of Diamond Jubilee celebrations, in a manner that befits the profession and also aims at further enhancing the image of the Institute in the eyes of the public at large. Members may please note that the “Multipurpose Empanelment Application” for the year 2008-2009 is expected to be hosted on 15th June 2008, at the Institute “s web site. Members may kindly note that the Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-section (1) of section 8 of the Central Sales Tax Act, 1956 (74 of 1956), has reduced the rate of tax as specified in sub-section (1) of section 8 of the said Act from three per cent to two per cent with effect from 1st June, 2008. We have arranged a half day seminar on MCA-21, & IFRS- The professional opportunity for Indian CA’s jointly with the Belgaum Branch of SIRC of ICAI on 28th of June, 2008 at Belgaum Branch. The seminar will be addressed by eminent speakers Mr.Vinod Raman, Company Secretary and CA Vikas Ostwal from Bangalore. Members are requested to attend the meeting in large numbers. The branch will be making necessary travel arrangements. We have also arranged a study circle meeting on “Taxation of Educational Institution “has been scheduled on Saturday, the 14th June 2008.     Speaker will be CA P.G.Ghali, a senior Chartered Accountant from Belgaum.
